چکیده

Allogenic bone grafts are used to fill bone defects following tumor resection. We report a case treated by segmental resection of humerus and allogenous bone grafting at five years of age and followed up till skeletal maturity. Five year male child with recurrent fibrous dysplasia of left humerus was treated with excision and allogenic non vascularised fibular grafting. The graft has incorporated well at five years follow up and remodeled to the contour of the bone subsequently, at fourteen years follow up patient is disease free with normal range of movements with shortening. Incorporation and remodeling of the allograft in the paediatric patients is discussed.

The treatment of eosinophilic granuloma of the humerus with nonvascularized fibular graft and elastic nail.

Eosinophilic granuloma is most common in children. In this paper we describe two children with a history of local swelling and pain in the humeral area who showed pathological fracture of the humerus. Needle biopsies confirmed the diagnosis of eosinophilic granuloma. Surgical procedures were performed in both patients. Both patients showed total remission after wide resection combined with segm...

Reconstructing humerus defects after tumor resection using an intramedullary cortical allograft strut.

BACKGROUND The humerus is a frequent involvement site of benign bone lesions. Various reconstruction methods have been adopted to restore the defect after excavating the lesion and/or to treat associated pathological fractures. In this study, we reviewed the clinical outcomes of using allogenous cortical struts to the treatment of patients with large humeral defects resulting from benign bone l...

Lengthening of a free fibular graft after sarcoma resection of the humerus.

We report a patient who had resection of the humerus for osteosarcoma, initial reconstruction with a free fibular graft of the humerus, and subsequent lengthening of the graft. A 9-cm (100% of free fibula length) lengthening was achieved to equalize the humerus length. A complication of regenerate fracture was treated successfully with plating. Four years after the initial surgery for lengtheni...

The Vascularized Fibular Graft in the Pediatric Upper Extremity: A Durable, Biological Solution to Large Oncologic Defects

Skeletal reconstruction after large tumor resection is challenging. The free vascularized fibular graft (FVFG) offers the potential for rapid autograft incorporation as well as growing physeal transfer in pediatric patients. We retrospectively reviewed eleven pediatric patients treated with FVFG reconstructions of the upper extremity after tumor resection. Eight male and three female patients w...

Long-term Follow-up of Free Vascularized Fibular Head Graft for Reconstruction of the Proximal Humerus after Wide Resection for Bone Sarcoma.

PURPOSE This study investigated the shape of bone grafts and associations with upper limb function over the long term after free vascularized fibular head graft (FVFHG) for reconstruction of the proximal humerus after wide resection for bone sarcoma. METHODS Patients comprised 3 women who had undergone FVFHG at least 5 years previously. Age at surgery was 12 years in 2 cases and 76 years in o...
